The blaugranes have reached this stage of the season with the treble still on four times before

Still in all three competitions. Barça have been in this position at this stage of the season four times before. The Club twice went on to make history and win the treble, obtaining the Liga and Champions League double on another occasion, and most recently, despite winning the league, they lost the Copa Del Rey final and agonisingly went out of the Champions League to Liverpool. Here we take a look at these four occasions that bear similarities with this season:

2018/19: Not the desired ending

Just six years ago, Barça defeated Manchester United to go through to the Champions League semifinals. Liverpool were the next opponents with a final place at the Metropolitano stadium at stake. They were also leading the domestic league by nine points at the matchday 32 stage.

In fact, Barça were crowned LaLiga champions for the 26th time just a few days before the Champions League tie. Despite being buoyed by the euphoria of winning the league title, the blaugranes didn't manage to qualify for the final of Europe's premier club competition.

A great 3-0 first leg set them up nicely, but the English side won 4-0 with a comeback that put paid to Barça's hopes of winning the European trophy. To rub further salt in the wounds, Barça went down to Valencia in the Copa del Rey final towards the end of May, meaning they only ended up with one of the trophies that season.

2014/2015: The second treble

When Barça defeated PSG to go through to the Champions League semifinals, they were leading LaLiga by 2 points and already through to the Copa del Rey final. Things looked good at the time and the outcome couldn't have been better.

They first defeated Bayern Munich in the UCL semifinals to qualify for the final in Berlin. They were then crowned LaLiga champions on 17 May after a 0-1 win against Atlético Madrid with one game still to go. The Copa del Rey was won after defeating Athletic Club in the final played at the Spotify Camp Nou on May 30. And they went on to round off the perfect season by lifting the European trophy.

2010/2011: A fabulous brace

Just the Copa del Rey was missing. Two seasons after winning the first treble in history, Barça almost did it again. The 2010/11 season saw the blaugranes put out Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League quarterfinals. They were already in the Copa del Rey final and had a big eight point lead over Real Madrid in LaLiga.

They ended up winning LaLiga and the Champions League - after putting out Real Madrid in the semifinals and coming through against Manchester United in the final - but it wasn't to be in a high octane Clásico Copa del Rey that was decided in extra time.

2008/2009: The sextuple

The first time the three trophies looked to be within reach ended up being the season when the sextuple was won. On 14 April, Barça managed to go through against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals. They were already through to the Copa del Rey final, while they had a good six-point lead in the domestic competition. Almost a month later, the blaugranes also managed to defeat Chelsea in the UCL semifinals.

Prior to the big Champions League final, Barça became Copa del Rey champions (May 13) and LaLiga champions (May 16). There was one more to go, and on May 27, Europe's premier club competition trophy was lifted with a defeat of Manchester United. The start of the following season saw another three trophies won, as the team secured the first ever sextuple in the history of football.
