Martino: “We didn't want the end to be like this”

The manager says "there was a possibility of not reaching our objective, but not reaching it shouldn't have been our mistake"

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino talked to the press after the draw with Getafe. With this result the Blaugrana say goodbye to the La Liga title, and that’s what the manager confirmed: “It’s not what we expected. There was a possibility of not reaching our objective, but not reaching it shouldn't have been our mistake". He added that “the end wasn’t just, at the Camp Nou and because of how the play played out.”

The match was marked by a late goal from Lafita. “If we don’t take the last play into account, I believe that my team had the desire and push to win. We created chances to win, even though we weren’t at the level that Barça need to be at,” said Martino. However, the manager said that “the responsibility of the tactical errors always fall on the manager, both in attack an defence.”

Martino reiterated that it hasn’t been Barça’s season: “It hasn’t been a good year, neither individually or collectively, because I was not able to make my intensions for the team reality and because we never showed Barça’s best version. It has been a difficult season with a lot of footballing issues.”
I don’t think the players came into the final stretch of the season tired or fatigued, and I have no complaints with their commitment
The FC Barcelona manager went on to explain the reasons behind why Barça’s season didn’t live up to expectations. “Of the three teams to fight for the league title, we were the least consistent. I don’t think the players came into the final stretch of the season tired or fatigued, and I have no complaints with their commitment,” concluded the manager.
