Manuel Vázquez Montalbán Award

The Journalism College of Catalonia, the Fundació F.C. Barcelona, the newspapers AVUI, El País and El Periódico, Grupo Planeta and publisher Random House Mondadori jointly host the journalism award titled El Premi Internacional de Periodisme Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, whose aim is to permanently commemorate the work of a journalist who was notably rigorous, ethical, self-critical and committed to social issues throughout his career.
The award is thus a tribute to Manuel Vázquez Montalbán but also a stimulus for journalistic creation in the same way that he honoured the civilian values to which his work related and, most of all, a tribute to his attitude to life.

The Premi Internacional de Periodisme Manuel Vázquez Montalbán offers two award categories: Sports Journalism and Political and Cultural Journalism.

The winners in 2004 were Maruja Torres and Anna Politkovskaya for the cultural and political honour and sociologist Patrick Mignon for the sports award.

In 2005 the nominees were Josep Pernau and Joaquim Maria Puyal in the sports category.

In 3th edition on 2006, the winners were Tomás Alcoverro, Teresa Pámies and Joan Villoro.

In 2007 the winners were Seymour Hersh and Simon Kuper.

In 2008 the winners were Candido Cannvň and Roberto Saviano.

In 2009 the winners were Ramon Besa and Luz Sosa.
